PERSIMMON OLD FASHIONED
From the Taste Tutor “Brown Drinks for Girls” Cocktail Friday series.
Yield: 4 ounces
PREP IT!
¼ Fuyu Persimmon, sliced, save 1 slice for garnish
1 tablespoon Honey
3 ounces Rye whiskey
3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 Cinnamon stick, for garnish
½ Rosemary sprig, save part of it for garnish
MAKE IT!
Slice the persimmon. (Swipe for instructional video)
In a rocks glass, muddle persimmon, honey, and rosemary until persimmon is puréed.
Add whiskey and angostura bitters. Stir using cinnamon stick.
Add ice. I used a ice sphere because I’m fancy.
Garnish and enjoy!
Tip: In general, use fuyu persimmons, the ones shaped like squatty hot house tomatoes, because they tend to be sweet at whatever ripeness you purchase them. The hachiya persimmons are shaped like an acorn or a Roma tomato. These can be very bitter and astringent (mouth drying) until you’re for sure for sure they are ripe.
Tip 2: This is another one hitter quitter so drink responsibly.
