BROWN SPICED CANDIED YAMS - Plant Based

Brown Spiced Candied Yams

The first time I had this my aunt Gwen made it and it was delicious. Here is my version of candied yams with a lil razzle dazzle…

Yield: 3-4 servings

PREP IT!

  • 8 ounces Vegan butter, melted

  • 4 teaspoons Taste Tutor Brown Spice

  • ¼ teaspoon Salt

  • 1 cup Sugar, granulated

  • 1 cup Brown sugar, dark

  • 2 tablespoons Vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon Bourbon

  • 1 large Orange, zested

  • 5 large Sweet potatoes, peeled & sliced ½ thick or cubed

  • Water to cover half way up baking dish (about 1 cup)

MAKE IT!

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a large casserole dish or baking pan, whisk together melted vegan butter, Taste Tutor Brown Spice, salt, sugar (or substitute), brown sugar, vanilla extract, bourbon, and orange zest until well blended.

  2. Place slice or cubed sweet potatoes into the casserole dish. Pour water over sweet potatoes until potatoes are halfway covered. Cover casserole dish or baking pan with lid or tightly with foil. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes or until sweet potatoes are softened. Stir 1 hour into baking.

  3. After 1 hour and 30 minutes, remove lid and allow to continue to bake for an additional 30 minutes to allow the sauce to reduce.

  4. Serve alongside your favorite dishes and Enjoy!

Tip: You can use any remaining candied yam juice to make another batch.

Reheat leftovers: in the oven or in the microwave.
