TRAVEL BLOG THURSDAY - SKYDIVING

FALLING WITH STYLE || RAEFORD || NORTH CAROLINA || USA || OCTOBER 2013

In October 2013, my best friend and I decided to go skydiving for her Birthday. We told our parents we had an “appointment” because we didn’t want them to worry. We did it in North Carolina and it was soooo COLD at the time. But it was so much fun!!

We drove from Raleigh to Raeford, NC. Our first step was watching a video showing us what the process would be like. We signed a waiver saying that if we died, they weren’t responsible. We got suited up and headed to the plane.

Suited and booted

The most nerve-wracking part was the flight up because as my dad always says, “why would you jump out of a perfectly good plane?!”. I kept thinking that while we were flying up, ha!

I went first and when it was our turn, the guy I was strapped to decided to do a front flip out of the plane for a little razzle dazzle. It felt like the part of a roller coaster when you do the drop but like it was never ending. I think it was only like 60 seconds according to what they told us after.

At first I couldn’t catch my breath because there was so much air rushing into my face since we were free falling but at the same time the guy who was taking pictures was in front of us and them things cost $150 so we was gon’ get some good pics; FYM?! So even though I couldn’t breathe, I was cheesin’ and making sure my eyes were open and that my twist out was visible underneath my hat thingy. I also had to keep the position they were telling us was best for aerodynamics and so homeboy could do his job. He literally had my life in his hands, so I was not tryna interfere with that!

Once the pics were over, I was able to catch my breath and as soon as I did, he pulled the parachute. That part was the most peaceful because we were no longer free falling and there was literally no one else up there so it was SILENT! We gently floated down to the ground and I enjoyed the views on the way down.

When it was time to land, I had to put my feet up so the guy strapped to me could properly start running once we hit the ground. They say if my legs were in the way, they could’ve broken because this was my first time and there is a proper technique to landing.

My best friend went next and she didn’t die either!! As pictured below…

Overall, it was an exhilarating experience that I would totally do again in another country. These are supposed to be travel food blogs, but I can’t remember what we ate after. Knowing me it was probably Bojangles or Cook Out or something like that.

Thanks for reading all these words!

Love ya!
