TRAVEL BLOG THURSDAY - CAPE COAST || Part 1

THE TIMES THAT ANGER AND SADNESS FILL MY SPIRIT || CAPE COAST || GHANA || JULY 2018 || Part 1...

I won’t say much except that this experience was a difficult one for me. Please watch the videos, view the pictures, and take time to reflect.

 Afternoon of Day 5 - Tuesday, July 24th, 2018

Also, I just happened to be in Ghana at the same time as my childhood pastor and his wife. We ran into each other at the Castle & Dungeons and were able to take the tour together. I hadn’t seen them since I was home last; about a year prior. It was nice to be with them during this experience. We took a selfie before we got started with the tour.

We noticed the violence of the Atlantic Ocean in that area mimics the violence of capture and the dungeon experience our ancestors had to endure. They don’t teach the entire horrific story of the experience in school. It is much worse than portrayed in history books and even unimaginable a group of people’s capability for evil against their fellow human. We’ve seen this violence throughout history and we see it today. It is vital information to share and NEVER forget so that nothing like this happens again.

The tour begins with an introductory history of the slave trade and goes into a tour and explanation of the horrific conditions of the male dungeons
This is a continuation of the Dungeons tour leading to The Door of No Return. This portion also includes a brief history of a few of the Europeans that occupied the castle.
Tour of the cells where Africans fighting for their freedom and African women fighting rape, deemed rebellious by the Europeans, were held as punishment and as torture. Most who were held here died in these cells.
Door of No Return
This is a visual of he upstairs auction area, the church, the court, and the outside perimeter of the castle and dungeons.

In terms of food, I didn’t have much of an appetite after our tour but I did eat some jollof rice with shrimp and shito on the side, in it at the restaurant they had on site; Castle Beach Restaurant.

The next post will be on a happier note. We were in Cape Coast where there are beaches, great food, and peacefulness surrounding such a horrible structure. Until next time…

Thanks for taking in this visual blog post.

Love ya!
